Lloyd Companies Honored With Experience Sioux Falls Star Award

Lloyd Companies and The Steel District received an especially meaningful honor this week, being recognized with the Star Award from Experience Sioux Falls.

It was presented at the tourism organization’s annual luncheon in Sioux Falls on May 13.

“We rarely present a Star Award, but when we do the award goes to a person, group, or business that has had a dream, created the vision, and completed that dream, all for the community and those near and far,” said Teri Schmidt, CEO of Experience Sioux Falls.

Schmidt paid tribute to Lloyd Companies’ co-founders, the late Craig Lloyd and his wife, Pat. in presenting the award.

“Craig and Pat had that dream, created that vision, and thankfully completed that dream before we sadly lost Craig just months ago,” she said.

“Today we honor Craig and Pat Lloyd, their family, and Lloyd Companies, along with The Steel District for being a Sioux Falls star — for dreaming and believing, for being that promise to make Sioux Falls shine now and well into the future. There’s no doubt Craig continues to watch over the project. He’s that bright star we see in the sky.”

In accepting the award, Pat Lloyd reminded the crowd that Craig would have responded to the recognition with his signature line: “Who’da thunk?”

“It takes a team,” she continued. “It’s been a great team, from the investors to the suppliers and the vendors and all the dreamers, all the employees and the leaders who have made it happen. I want to thank all of you on behalf of Craig.”

The Steel District is helping change the visitor landscape in Sioux Falls, offering a new way to experience the Big Sioux River with destination shopping, dining and entertainment, in addition to a new place to stay in the signature Canopy by Hilton hotel.

“There’s no better job than to work for Lloyd Companies and with Lloyd Companies. They’re dreamers and then they put it in others’ hands to make it happen, along with themselves,” said Jennifer Seifert-Brenna, vice president of hospitality.

“It takes a village to do all of this and I am so grateful to be a part of that village and I know many who have worked with Lloyd are too. We are so excited to present The Steel District to you – the restaurants, the hotel, the retail, all of it. So come visit us!”
