From East To West, Lloyd Construction Reflects On Year Of Signature Building Projects
For much of 2025, Mike Dill could keep an eye on multiple signature projects for Lloyd Construction out the window of his office at The Steel District in downtown Sioux Falls.
“It’s unique to see on a daily basis how our work is impacting the Big Sioux River and Falls Park,” said Dill, executive vice president of construction.
For Lloyd Construction, 2025 brought the completion of several multi-year projects — including a segment of the River Greenway that included the reconstruction of the lowhead dam in the Big Sioux River and the multifaceted Jacobson Plaza at Falls Park, which included an ice ribbon, dog park, splash pad, The Lodge restaurant and the city’s largest playground.
“When Jacobson Plaza opened in July, I saw right away out my window that it was just packed full of kids, and that was exciting to see because we don’t have anything like it around here and we were honored to build it,” Dill said. “And now when I drive home at night past the ice ribbon, I see it’s getting a lot of traffic. The area surrounding the Steel District has been activated with so much new infrastructure.”
The River Greenway includes expanded riverfront pedestrian and gathering space, including Lloyd Landing, and it involved coordinating with multiple entities to finish construction of the dam that will support improved water levels for years to come.
“It was something unique we’ve never done before,” Dill said. “It’s obviously changed the landscape of what the Falls looks like.”
While those two projects helped define Lloyd Construction’s work in Sioux Falls this year, to the west Block5 finished construction and represented the company’s biggest project in the Black Hills.
The mixed-use development in downtown Rapid City includes a Hyatt Place hotel, 130 loft apartments, a parking garage and retail space.
“We turned the hotel over in April and the apartments in July, which took a lot of effort and manpower” Dill said.
Also in the second quarter of 2025, Lloyd Construction completed a 60,000-square-foot expansion of Lewis & Clark Behavioral Health Services in Yankton, adding 40 beds, office and clinical spaces and a pharmacy while building alongside a fully operational assisted living facility.
“It had some unique challenges and a took a lot of coordination. We were pleased to hear the owner say we did a great job, as this was another big project for us,” Dill said.
Looking ahead to 2026, “we’re optimistic,” he said. “We’re excited by what’s going on in Sioux Falls with a lot of work starting in the spring.”
Lloyd Construction also completed a downtown office buildout in 2025 for CJ Schwans and will be involved in the office buildout at its new Asian food production facility at Foundation Park.
“It’s going to be a high-quality, modern office, so we’re looking forward to continuing to build on the relationship we’ve started with CJ,” Dill said.
Additionally, Lloyd Construction will work on a project for itself in Rapid City, a multi-tenant office building in the Founders Park area.
“We’ll be one of three tenants in the building and having a growing team in the area,” Dill said. “We’re planning to move our team into their new office in the third quarter.”
Lloyd Construction also continues to expand its reach nationally, taking on multifamily construction in Arkansas and hospitality projects in several states on the east coast.
“We do have capacity to take on more work, and plan to continue growing our team” Dill said.
“We’re looking for the right people to join our team, both locally and in our outer markets.
