Kirby Place is a home for those with loved ones receiving medical care in Sioux Falls. This 7,460-square-foot addition included 14 new patient rooms, more than doubling current lodging while connecting two existing buildings – a welcome center and an inn. The existing buildings were approximately 5,000 and 4,300 square feet, respectively. The new addition also included a launch room and mechanical room. Improvements to the existing space included bathroom renovations while replacing tubs with accessible showers, new carpet, paint, floor coverings and additional storage in guest rooms. Common kitchen spaces also were extensively renovated.
Construction began in May, 2021 and finished in April, 2022 following some work that extended it beyond its original timeline. Connecting two existing buildings at different elevations and multiple roof pitches and valleys required the expertise to ensure that elevations and roof pitches all worked together. Additionally, both existing buildings needed to be kept watertight and operational while parts of the roof assembly were removed to tie in the existing roofs or change their slope.
