Lloyd Companies Marks 12 years On ‘Best Places to Work’ List
Lloyd Companies is celebrating one dozen years of being named among the best places to work in the region.
Lloyd recently was named to Prairie Business magazine’s “50 Best Places to Work” list for the 12th consecutive year.
Award-winning businesses are nominated by their employees, who highlight the reasons they believe their business represents a great place to work.
Themes mentioned included workplace culture, opportunities for employee growth, teamwork and individual responsibility, along with employee morale.
“It’s an incredible honor for us to be named alongside all these great businesses,” Lloyd CEO Chris Thorkelson said.
“We’re a family business that wants our team to feel like part of the family — and the fact that they step up and validate their experience here year after year tells us we’re fostering the right kind of place to work even as we grow and expand our reach.”
That growth now includes more than 500 employees across Lloyd Companies.
“Our continued growth is exciting, but what is even more meaningful is seeing that growth reflected in our employee experience,” said Tina Lemieux, human resources director.
As employees’ expectations continue to evolve, Lloyd has placed greater emphasis on communication, professional development, flexibility, recognition and employee well-being.
“Employees are increasingly looking for a complete workplace experience,” Lemieux said. “They want meaningful work, opportunities to advance, flexibility, strong relationships and a company that recognizes their contributions.”
Feedback from employees often points to two themes: people and opportunity.
“Employees are drawn to Lloyd because of the reputation we have built and the chance to work alongside talented people,” Lemieux said. “Once they are here, they appreciate the opportunity to take on new challenges, develop their skills and build a career.”
There also is a sense of pride in being part of the company, she added.
“Our employees can see the impact of their work, and they know they are contributing to something that continues to grow and evolve,” Lemieux said.
In all, Prairie Business received 1,377 nominations for this year’s contest.
“We enjoy seeing so many participants in the annual contest,” Prairie Business editor Carrie McDermott said.
“It is great to see the many companies that have been here before, but also to see new names on the list. The goal is to show that there are some outstanding companies in our region.”
This year’s 50 Best are highlighted in the magazine’s September edition.
Lloyd’s internal surveying also reflects continued strength.
Its most recent employee engagement survey resulted in an employee net promoter score, or eNPS, of +74 — a strong indication that employees feel connected to Lloyd and proud to be part of the team, Lemieux said.
“At its core, Lloyd is a company that puts people first,” she said. “We have a culture where employees are encouraged to contribute, take ownership and build meaningful relationships with the people around them. Even as we have grown, we have maintained a strong sense of teamwork and connection.”
Lloyd also continues to invest in the employee experience as the company grows.
Leadership development has become a significant area of focus, with emerging and current leadership cohorts designed to give leaders at different stages of their careers the opportunity to learn, develop and connect with one another. Quarterly leadership meetings also provide an avenue for collaboration, professional development and alignment across the organization.
“We also believe a great workplace is something you continue to build,” Lemieux said. “We listen to our employees, learn from their feedback and look for ways to make the Lloyd experience even better. That commitment to our people is a big part of what makes this recognition so meaningful.”
The company has continued to evaluate and enhance its onboarding experience as well.
“With more than 500 employees, it is important that every new team member has a strong introduction to Lloyd, understands our culture and feels equipped to contribute from day one,” Lemieux said.
Lloyd is hiring across the organization, with current needs including construction superintendents and project managers, as well as property managers and maintenance technicians.
“We’re looking for people who bring a strong work ethic, a willingness to learn and a desire to be part of a growing team,” Lemieux said. “Whether someone is bringing years of experience or is just getting started, we value people who want to contribute, grow and build a career at Lloyd.”
Beyond technical skills, Lloyd looks for employees who are collaborative, dependable, curious and take pride in what they do.
“Our best employees are people who want to learn, share ideas, help others succeed and take pride in being part of something bigger than themselves,” Lemieux said.
For Lloyd, the 12th consecutive year on the “50 Best Places to Work” list is both a milestone and motivation to keep building on the culture employees continue to recognize.
“We are excited about what is ahead for Lloyd,” Lemieux said. “Our growth continues to create opportunities throughout the organization, and we are committed to investing in the people who make that growth possible.”
“This recognition belongs to our employees. They are the reason Lloyd continues to grow, innovate, and create opportunities across our communities. Being named one of the region’s best places to work for the 12th consecutive year is an honor, and it reinforces our commitment to building a workplace where talented people can thrive and build meaningful careers.”
