“I’m very pleased with it. We had a lot of good partnering and problem-solving throughout the whole project, and it’s resulted in a wonderful exhibit we can all be proud of in Sioux Falls. I appreciate everyone’s work in the process – Lloyd Companies and all the numerous subcontractors who worked together to make this happen.”

Becky Dewitz
CEO, Great Plains Zoo

Lions returned to the Great Plains Zoo in Sioux Falls, S.D., for the first time in 30 years as a result of this $8 million public-private partnership project. Providing year-round indoor/outdoor living for a full pride lions, it includes six bedrooms and indoor/outdoor viewing opportunities for guests. The nearly 27,000-square-foot exhibit is among the largest for lions in North America, featuring a precast building with two indoor viewing rooms, a training window, Kopje Rock features throughout the exhibit, timber canopy structures, a pergola, multiple outdoor yards for the lions, and designated indoor/outdoor spaces for the zoo’s meerkats. Out of public viewing, there’s an extensive custom system of steel cage enclosures for the lions and meerkats.
