Sealed For The Future! Lloyd Places Time Capsules In Honor Of Anniversary
How do you capture 50 years of history? We decided to bury it. Literally.
The result of a year-long effort to compile elements of our Lloyd Companies’ history came together recently when our company buried two large time capsules with historical artifacts from the company’s first 50 years plus a capsule of memories from the 50th anniversary year under the stairs of our new downtown Sioux Falls office at The Steel District.
“Throughout our 50th anniversary year, we asked employees to bring forward things they had saved throughout the years,” said Christie Ernst, Executive Vice President of Property Management. “In preparation for our move to The Steel District, people were cleaning out their offices anyway, which unearthed more great contributions for the time capsules.”
The Lloyd team compiled everything from news and magazine clippings to photos, name tags and artifacts with special memories. One year the company had an event with a “light at the end of the tunnel” theme, so co-founder Craig Lloyd’s “conductor hat” made its way into the time capsule.
“We added our company newsletters from throughout the years, and I found a list of Craig and Pat’s goals from 2000 so I put that in there,” Ernst said.
Craig also made a list of stats to send forward into the future – including information on current apartment rents, projects, building valuations and stock prices of interest.
Altogether, nearly 250 submissions filled the time capsules which will be opened for Lloyd’s 75th anniversary.
“Our hope is that we could have three or four generations present that way,” Ernst said. “It definitely was a fun way to honor and remember our 50th anniversary as we look ahead to the next milestone.”
