Lloyd Companies Leads Off 50th Anniversary Year

50th Anniversary , Inside Lloyd

Lloyd Companies’ 50th year in business is shaping up to be our biggest yet.

“There’s so much to be excited about as we look toward 2022. We’re coming off an incredible year and truly see opportunities ahead in every community we serve,” CEO Chris Thorkelson said.

“This year is about looking toward the future as much as it is about honoring the past. As we prepare to change the downtown Sioux Falls skyline with The Steel District and continue to grow in the metro communities, west to Rapid City and east to Des Moines, we can’t wait to continue writing the next chapter in this company’s incredible story.”

Lloyd Companies was founded by Craig and Pat Lloyd in 1972 when they moved to Sioux Falls to manage apartments for Craig’s uncle. It’s grown into a full-service real estate company offering development, commercial real estate, construction, property management and hospitality services, with a portfolio of more than 7,500 apartments.

Craig Lloyd transitioned to board chair in 2015, and his nephew, Chris Thorkelson became CEO.

“Pat and Craig haven’t just left us a legacy of buildings and businesses, but a culture of truly becoming invested in the communities we serve,” Chris said. “This is a year to celebrate that and to build on that.”

Lloyd Companies plans a lot of celebrating in 2022, beginning with a commemorative logo that will be used throughout the year. You’ll see our company celebrating the year in many ways internally and with the community, from promotional gear and social media to the $1,972 giveaway and interactive website elements to come.

Because we embrace giving back, we’re doing that in a big way, selecting two nonprofits each month for a $1,972 donation. We can’t wait to introduce you to the incredible work they’re doing.

Then, get ready to help us make a little more history this year as we compile a time capsule that will be buried at The Steel District and opened 25 years from now. We’d love your newspaper clippings, photos, stories or other memorabilia to help us preserve Lloyd Companies’ past in this memorable way.

And of course, we plan to throw one big party. Or maybe multiple parties.

There’s so much to celebrate, past, present and future. We look forward to a truly “golden” year ahead!
