Hyatt Place Enters Construction Home Stretch With Remarkable Early Bookings

Downtown Rapid City’s first new hotel in years is entering its final stages of construction with a huge response from the community and future visitors.

Located at 525 St. Joseph St., the 117-room Hyatt Place will serve as an anchor for Block 5, Lloyd Companies’ 10-story redevelopment that includes retail space and 132 loft apartments.

“The guest rooms on the hotel’s upper levels are looking really good,” said Jennifer Seifert-Brenna, vice president of hospitality for Lloyd.

On the main level, sheetrock and walls are being finished, and final touches will start soon.

“We want to give a nod to the Black Hills, but with more soft lines and organic design,” Seifert-Brenna said.

“There are pops of silver and gold and even purple, really rich jewel tones, so it draws inspiration from the area while not being what you might consider a traditional Black Hills aesthetic.”

The lobby is designed to welcome the public, she added.

While room reservations are available for stays beginning in June, early response to the Hyatt Place has been incredible, Seifert-Brenna said.

“Hyatt has a certain recommendation for how much business should be pre-booked, and we’re already so far beyond that it’s wonderful,” she said.

“We have a lot of different suites because of the L-shape of the building. Every corner has different suites, and most of those have connecting doors that open to adjacent rooms, so you can expand the suites even more.”

The hotel also offers a 5,000-square-foot ballroom that can be subdivided into four individual spaces as needed.

“Our pre-function space has generated a lot of early interest,” Seifert-Brenna added. “It looks out to downtown with so many windows and high ceilings. It’s a very modern-looking space.”

Breakfast and dinner will be offered in the hotel, with an expanded evening menu beyond what Hyatt Place typically serves and sharable dishes available in the bar.

Hyatt Place is finalizing hiring for its leadership team and then will begin hiring for additional positions.
