Decade Of Success: Lloyd Companies Marks 10 Years On 50 Best Places To Work List
Out of more than 1,700 nominations, Lloyd Companies has been named one of the best places to work in its region for the 10th consecutive year.
The annual 50 Best Places to Work award is produced by Prairie Business, a regional business publication.
Employees throughout Minnesota, North Dakota and South Dakota nominated their companies, highlighting some of the reasons they believe make their place of business a great place to work.
Topics considered in the nomination were workplace culture, opportunities for employee growth, teamwork and individual responsibility, and employee morale, among others.
“The way in which organizations treat their employees, clients and business partners goes a long way in describing the culture of a company,” Prairie Business said in its report.
“When people feel valued and appreciated, when they have a voice and take pride in their work, it’s reflected in their job performance. Also important is how a company supports its employees by helping them grow. Providing a healthy work-life balance and the benefits it offers are important factors in the success and well-being of a company and its employees. These are things that make employees want to stay long-term.”
When Lloyd first made the list, there were fewer than 100 people on the team. That’s grown to approximately 500, making the continued honor even more gratifying.
“It’s the people that create the culture,” CEO Chris Thorkelson said. “Certainly leadership has a handle in it, but at the end of the day it’s about the team hiring and growing great people. They’re talented, too, but inherently this is a team of simply good people with good training practices and that’s what creates a dynamic team.”
The hope is to create a place filled with co-workers “you want to work with every day,” he continued. “Pat and Craig Lloyd really created that foundation for us. It’s a family business first, and we charge our team and give them the freedom to cultivate that culture too.”
The last year has seen multiple milestones for the company, with iconic signature developments underway on both sides of South Dakota, a multifamily portfolio that reached 10,000 units under management and a commercial portfolio of 2 million square feet.
“It’s really a focus for us to provide the right experience both internally and externally,” Thorkelson said. “We feel like if we take care of our internal employees, they take care of each other and take care of our tenants and clients. We’re grateful our employees think enough of their experience working for us that it reflects year after year with recognition from Prairie Business.”
