“It’s been great. We had a lot of customers coming up to the doors as we were setting up, and once we were open, a lot of them were coming in who didn’t necessarily need anything but wanted to see the store, and they ended up buying something. We’re getting phone calls every day, and people are just excited about it. The visibility off the interstate is great.”
Northern Tool + Equipment was constructed on a redeveloped infill site and made from precast and structural steel. The store was built at The Crossroads, a 30-acre development on the southeast side of 12th Street and Interstate 29. Lloyd Construction began work on the store in July 2021 and completed it in early February 2022, a couple of days before scheduled completion and within budget.
Electrical gear was delayed during this project because of a pandemic-related material shortage, so Lloyd sourced the gear from three different vendors and bought some from a job site in Georgia to allow the building to maintain its schedule. While weather conditions can sometimes present a challenge for a first-quarter opening, strong project management and favorable weather allowed landscaping to be completed in the first week of December, followed by an on-time move-in and grand opening.
