Lloyd Companies served as the general contractor for the Christensen home for DakotAbilities.
The Christensen House is a 5,440 square-foot, seven-unit single-story home with attached bathrooms. It includes a kitchen, dining area, laundry room, walk-in pantry and a living room with an attached media room. The main bathroom includes a whirlpool tub for treatments. The home walks out to a covered, fenced-in and gated patio space for residents to enjoy. The investment is estimated at more than $819,000.
Construction began in late November 2018 and finished on schedule in late June 2019.
Because the back side of the building contained mature pine trees, Lloyd Construction built a boulder retaining wall and used mulch instead of sod for the landscaping. This was mainly because the tree coverage would have prevented grass from growing and cover the ground with pine needles most of the season, also covering the grass.
In addition, the sub-fascia board was an unusual size at the eaves, so Lloyd had to make a special metal fascia cover. After reviewing multiple samples, ownership was able to choose a nice, defined point fascia that turned out beautiful.
“Lloyd made our building project seamless. Communication throughout the project was excellent and the weekly updates, including pictures, kept us up-to-date on the status of progress. They delivered a beautiful building on time and ready for use.”
– Heidi Loof, DakotAbilities Director of Residential Services
“DakotAbilities has had the opportunity to partner with Lloyd on a number of residential projects. Projects have included a number of homes throughout Sioux Falls as well as apartment settings. In all cases, the Lloyd team was meticulous in the detail of the unique needs that the adults with developmental disabilities have to live as independently as possible.”
