Lloyd Companies Announces First Quarter 1972 Grant Awards
From an amazing 435 nominations, Lloyd has selected six nonprofits as recipients of its first quarter 1972 funding awards.
“It’s heartwarming to witness our team’s enthusiasm for philanthropy, and it’s truly gratifying to observe their genuine commitment to the process of reviewing countless applications,” said Mary Lloyd-Huber, who is helping coordinate the effort.
A committee of Lloyd team members reviews applications and selects finalists, and then all employees at Lloyd have a chance to vote for who they’d like to see receive funding.
The 1972 grant program debuted in 2022 as a special way to celebrate 50 years. It was so popular, the program returned as part of Lloyd’s giving this year.

This Sioux Falls organization promotes positive aging for adults and enhances the quality of life for all in the community through programs, services and education.
This grassroots South Dakota nonprofit has grown to be licensed in South Dakota, North Dakota and Nebraska. It provides comprehensive and empowering services throughout the adoption process.
This Sioux Falls-based nonprofit’s mission is to promote and protect the best interests of abused and neglected children through the advocacy efforts of trained community volunteers.
Based in Sioux Falls, this nonprofit strives to provide reliable foster care to support families in the Sioux Falls area and beyond. It was established in 2012 as East River Foster Parent Network and rebranded in 2022 to reflect its dedication to the entire Sioux Falls area.
Based in Cedar Rapids, Safe Place Foundation’s mission is to help men in their recovery journey to return to family and community. This nonprofit provides a recovery-based living environment for homeless men suffering with drug and alcohol addiction with services to reduce their dependency and rebuild their lives.
This Sioux Falls-based nonprofit promotes healthier pregnancies and healthier babies, focusing specifically on economically disadvantaged pregnant women less likely to seek early and regular prenatal care. Using incentives and rewards, Teddy Bear Den encourages maintaining healthy lifestyles.
“In this first quarter, the majority of the organizations that received the 1972 award are dedicated to advocating for children, families and providing safe housing – all areas of critical need within the communities we serve,” Lloyd Huber said. “We are delighted to contribute to the sustainability of these missions.”
We will continue awarding 1972 grants throughout 2024. Nominations will be accepted from nonprofits that are registered 501(c)3 organizations who serve Sioux Falls, Mitchell, Rapid City, Des Moines, Sioux City, Council Bluffs, Cedar Rapids and Rapid City. The selection committee looks for organizations that specialize in providing services of education, food, shelter or health services.
Those who received a 1972 award in 2022 are eligible to apply again. Multiple nominations are encouraged, and applications can be resubmitted each quarter if they aren’t selected. Those who received a 1972 award in 2024 are not eligible to apply again this year.
