Host An Olympic Viewing Party Worthy Of A Gold Medal

They’re here! We’ve been hearing about the road to Rio for months, but this is where they all converge. There are few events that can unite the entire world, but for the next 17 days, all eyes will be on Brazil and the Games of the XXXI Olympiad.
The Olympics are a global gathering—a catalyst for community. They are the perfect opportunity to come together as friends, family, and as fellow countrymen and women. They truly are an event unlike any other.
Since we’re passionate about community here at Lloyd Companies, we thought we’d share a few tips on how to host an Olympic viewing party worthy of a gold medal. Get some ideas below and check out our Pinterest board for a few extra tips, tricks, and recipes.
DECORATE
The Olympic games have been around for centuries. Over the years, a number of iconic symbols have become associated with the celebration–the Olympic rings, the torch, the medals. You won’t have to put a lot of thought into what to include in your décor, but you may need some help with your execution. That’s where we come in.
Remember those ring chains you made with construction paper and a glue stick as a kid? That’s a simple place to start. Better yet, get your kids to make them for you. Use the Olympic colors, or the colors of the country you’ll be rooting for.
You could also put a fake crowd backdrop on your wall. Set up a medal podium photo booth. Get creative with the way you present your snacks. Hang up a chart to keep track of each country’s medal count. Check out this simple Olympic ring idea using colored rolls of masking tape.
WEAR COSTUMES
If you’re taking in the opening ceremony, a costume is a must. The opening and closing festivities are all about dress and style. Encourage your guests to get in on the fun. If you’re feeling up to it, you could recommend that your guests wear dress from a country of their choice. You could provide them with Brazilian pieces. Or, you could go the traditional route and put together olive wreaths that hearken back to the ancient games in Greece. Save The Daily Meal Copyright issue Lloyd Companies Olympic Viewing Party
PLAY GAMES
The Olympics have a way of getting a person’s competitive juices flowing. Put together some bingo cards. Fill the boxes with things a person might see or hear while watching the Olympics like the Olympic theme song, a flag wrapped around an athlete’s shoulders, a national anthem, or a country you’ve never heard of.
If you have a second T.V., set up vintage Nintendo games like “Track and Field” and go for the gold yourselves.
EAT FOOD
What would your party be without food? Check out the traditional Brazilian recipes on our Pinterest board. How do shrimp, mango, and avocado tostadas sound? Or grilled cinnamon pineapple? Have you ever heard of pao de queijo? Us either, but they look like some tasty pastries. Give them a try!
Take some of the pressure off of yourself as the host. Encourage each of your guests to bring a dish from a different country.

IMBIBE
If your party isn’t a party with out food, it certainly isn’t a party without drinks. Supply your guests with a smorgasbord of international beers. Or, serve them the national cocktail of Brazil–the caipirinhi.
