Prepare Your Home to Sell This Spring - With Kate Christopulos

Despite the looming winter storm here in Sioux Falls, we’ve enjoyed glimpses of spring this month. Warmer weather lifts our spirits in the Midwest, but it often heats up the real estate market as well. For whatever reason, the largest number of buyers actively searching for a home can almost always be found during the months of April, May and June. If you’re thinking about putting your home on the market as the seasons change, Lloyd Residential Group’s Kate Christopulos has some helpful tips for you.

First impressions are important for new clients. The front door area is crucial. 
  • Clean light fixtures and make sure the light bulb works. 
  • Wipe down the inside and outside of the glass in your front door. 
  • Replace welcome m at, or at least make sure you are sweeping the leaves and debris from your current mat every day.
  • If the weather permits, add a splash of color with a fresh pot of flowers.  
  • Trim shrubs and bushes. M ake sure all vegetation is trimmed away from the house to protect the siding  f rom being  damaged.

Maintain the exterior of your home. 
  • Clean gutters are a must. As snow and ice continue to melt and the rain begins to fall, you’ll want to make sure         moisture is moving away from your house.
  • Wipe down or repaint patio furniture. 
  • Make sure your walkways are swept and clean of debris.

Cleanliness is key on the interior of your home.
  • Check corners, ceiling fans and light fixtures for cobwebs.
  • Wipe down windows inside and out.
  • Make sure your blinds, window treatments a nd window ledges are dust free.
  • Deep clean any exposed floors.
  • Declutter rooms as much as possible.
  • Make sure every surface is clean. Scrub countertops and appliances, along with the sink, toilet and shower.
