The award honors the late Sioux Falls city planning director, who was instrumental in reshaping the vision for downtown. It recognizes people who are forward-thinkers and innovators in the downtown community.
Beck, a former city and downtown planner who worked under Metli’s leadership, was recognized for her work in both the public and private sectors moving key downtown projects forward including Uptown development, Falls Park improvements and riverfront revitalization.
“She is a tireless champion for downtown development, often providing leadership behind the scenes on transformational projects. She is widely respected amongst her colleagues for her experience and ability to navigate the challenges of public/private partnerships,” downtown president Joe Batcheller said in presenting the award.
“As someone who had a tremendous impact on her life personally and professionally, I’m certain Steve Metli would be proud that she is carrying his legacy forward.”
Beck joined Lloyd Companies and its leadership team in 2013.
“I carry Steve Metli’s vision and wisdom with me every day, and to be the first person recognized with this award in his memory is an honor that’s hard to even express,” Beck said. “I’m humbled and even more motivated to continue building on Steve’s legacy.”
